A sweetheart strapless ballgown is a favorite style of our stylists here at Bitsy Bridal because it is a universally flattering silhouette. The sweetheart neckline accentuates curves and flatters the shoulders. The fitted bodice and fullness of the skirt draw attention to the smallest part of the bride’s waist.

Designer Highlight: Hayley Paige

Hayley Paige: The Rising Star of Bridal

Hayley’s one of a kind designs put her above the rest!

Ah Miss Hayley Paige! The girl with it all! Two amazing bridal lines, a TV show, wedding¬†athleisure wear, her own app, and more!¬† Even though her popularity has skyrocketed since her debut and partnership with JLM, it hasn’t affected the integrity of her designs. She continues to be an innovative and forward designer in the industry. We want to highlight one of our favorite gowns from her Blush¬†line. Meet¬†Halo.

Hayley‘s designs are always intricate and innovative.¬† With gowns like Halo, she uses various layers of tulle and horsehair trim to give volume and dimension. She also puts the layers on the outside of her skirts, unlike most ballgowns that carry the volume underneath a patterned layer of fabric. Her ballgowns have a beautiful type of asymmetry that makes them stand apart from your standard ballgowns.

Hayley has also embraced the trend of dark under light.  By putting a darker nude or champagne color underneath a light ivory lace, it catches the eye and makes the lace pop! She does this with both lace and with her one-of-a-kind Marrakesh beading  in her Delta and West gowns.

Kudos to Mary Jessica who took these stunning photos!

Hayley is one of a kind and her gowns are guaranteed to make you look and feel fabulous and trendy! We hope you have loved our Halo gown. If this isn’t isn’t your jam, check out our other designer highlight for some more inspiration! Call or book online to try on some of Hayley’s new 2018 collection.

Chocolate and Class

A Period Wedding with Some Chocolate

“All I need is love and chocolate.”

This wedding has me all sorts of ways! This bride really embraced the classics, with a black and white theme, a 1936 Cadillac, fedoras, and a plethora of roses. You are really taken back in time!

To top it off, this gorgeous wedding took place at Taste, a local chocolate shop in Provo that does gourmet chocolate tastings and produces their own chocolate. (Talk about good taste!)

Not only is the decor in this wedding absolutely stunning, but the dress is a showstopper too! This gown is a gorgeous Tulle New York design. It’s made with an amazing natural silk that has a crisp texture and an elegant feel. This mermaid style really flatters the figure, and is a timeless shape to match the rest of the wedding.

Photographer Ashley Hawkeye did a fabulous job of showcasing the smooth and crisp nature of the gown and the classy atmosphere of the space!

Our blog has featured quite a few different takes on the classy look, but there are so many ways to create an elegant and chic style all your own. The addition of chocolate and warmer tones makes this an extraordinary take on a common theme. The gown also has a unique flare to it that helps it stand apart from the typical mermaid shaped gowns!

We love showcasing our wonderful brides and their fabulous weddings. If you can’t get enough class in your life, check out our other post about modern classics!¬†So and So that this editorial got featured on Utah Valley Bride.

Don’t forget to stop back for more looks at creative weddings and gowns.¬†Call or book online to try on gowns like this from our collection. While you’re at it, reward yourself with some good chocolate. You deserve it. ūüėČ

Til next time!

June: Dress of the Month

Summer is here and so is our Dress of the Month!

With the month of June comes a new shop favorite!

This month, we are showcasing a gown from the fabulous line,¬†Alyne by Rita Vinieris! This gown is perfect for the summer months. It’s figure flattering without being too heavy, and it has the perfect amount of sleeve for an outdoor wedding. The talented Lindsey Shaun did such a beautiful job capturing the details of this gown!

This dress comes in ivory (as pictured), as well as a beautiful deep nude color that really makes the overlying lace pop!¬† Both colors are stunning in their own ways. The ivory version of this gown is perfect for the summer because the the coloring isn’t too heavy or deep, and it catches the bright summer sunshine beautifully!

This dress has a gentle mermaid fit with a moving waistline, which creates an elegant silhouette while still hugging the figure in the most flattering ways.

The lace detailing on this gown is absolutely stunning! It has a very unique patterning that sets it apart from your standard lace, and gives it a bit of an edge.

If you are into gowns that are different from your cookie cutter wedding gown, also check out our March: Dress of the Month.

This fabulous design is stunning for a summer wedding. If you love this look, call or book online to come and try this gown on in the nude or ivory! Need more ideas for your dream dress? Alterations: How They Work and What to Know

Alterations for the Perfect Fit

For most brides, once you find the gown you can’t live without, you get your measurements taken and your stylist will help you select a size. This size is usually very close to your current measurements or the measurement you may be working towards. Unfortunately, even though the measurements are close, they aren’t perfect. To get the perfect fit you need alterations!

Whether you’re still shopping or already have your gown, here are some tips and things to know!

Brushfire Photography

IN-HOUSE ALTERATIONS

Here at Bitsy Bridal, we offer our in-house alterations. This means that we have seamstresses that work with us to complete your gown.  When you are ready to start the alterations process for your Bitsy Bridal gown, you will come back to the shop where your dress, the seamstress, and one of our stylists will meet you.

SUGGESTED TIMELINE

A lot of bridal boutiques will start alterations 2 months from the wear date, but in our shop we understand that timelines can be tight.

For us, we typically like to have at least 4 alteration appointments at least 10 days apart each, to make sure the gown is perfect. We also have the option of rush alterations, which can range from 4 appointments 7 days apart, to only 3 day alterations. Your stylist will work with your wedding date to make the perfect alteration schedule for you.

The first fitting is the first time you try on your newly arrived gown. In this appointment, the seamstress will see what needs to be done, and talks to you about any special requests (a modest buildup, extra sparkles, etc). This is a good time to bring in the shoes and undergarments you are going to be wearing, so the seamstress can take them into consideration.

The second fitting is usually the scariest for brides. This is because the gown usually looks taken apart, and not like the dream dress you remembered purchasing. This is a very important fitting because it allows the seamstress to make any critical adjustments. Don’t worry! Trust in the process.

The third and fourth fittings usually involve finishing touch types of adjustments, depending on the work that was done. Most brides will have their finished gowns at the end of these appointments!

ALTERATIONS VOCABULARY

Unless you’ve had something altered before, you probably haven’t come in contact with some common terms associated in bridal alts. Here are a few you might hear!

Bustle

Brides always wonder what will happen if they get a gown with a long train. How does it stay out of the way after the ceremony, when you’re dancing and having a good time? You get a bustle!¬†A good bustle¬†will tuck away a long train to keep the gown from being stepped on and ruined. It usually¬†consists of hidden little clips or ribbons, and will keep the gown looking gorgeous whether the train is up or down.¬†¬†Our seamstress can recommend what type of bustle will work best for you!

Taking in/Letting out

More often than not, the dress will come in a bit bigger than anticipated, or maybe the bride lost some weight. No need to fear! The seamstress will take in your gown to make it fit better. She finds the seams in the gowns and brings them in tighter to fit you better. Similarly, if the gown is fitting a bit smaller than expected, then the seams can be let out a bit to be more comfortable.

Bust cups

Brides always wonder “What bra am I supposed to wear with this dress?” The answer is easy! You don’t! To make you more comfortable and to avoid the appearance of straps, the seamstress will put bra cups in your gown. These cups help to support your chest while still keeping the shape of the gown.

Boning

Most brides love to accentuate their figures. Boning is one way of doing this. Boning is a structure through the front portion of the gown that helps maintain shape and give support to both the bride and the dress. If a gown doesn’t have boning, the seamstress can put some in for a better fit. Or, if the boning is unwanted, it can be removed.

Hem

Wedding gowns are sent to fit 5′ 8″ models. Most people aren’t that tall. Of course, the bride can wear higher heels, but if that’s not enough (or if the bride is a flats kind of gal), the seamstress can do a hem on the gown to make it shorter. Most people think a hem is simply chopping off the bottom of a dress. But there are many ways to do a hem, and very few involve completely cutting the bottom of the dress off. The seamstress will help you with what type of hem will be beneficial for your gown.

Hopefully this gives you a good introduction to alterations and how they work! Check out some of our other helpful tips about wedding gowns, like Waistlines, Colored Gowns, and Inclusive Sizes. Don’t forget to check back for our¬†Dress of the Month!¬†If you’re dazzled with our alterations, give us a call or book online.¬†Hope to see you soon, darlings!

May: Dress of the Month

May your Wedding be Bright and Beautiful!

This romantic gown may just melt your heart!

This May we are showcasing an absolutely dazzling gown by Christos! This light and effervescent gown is the perfect dress to celebrate spring. The delicate tulle and lace perfectly capture the gentle beauty of spring.

Christos is a master of fabrics and design. Each of their gowns feel light as a feather and look amazing without being see through or baggy.  This is very surprising for a ball gown of this size that usually requires a lot of thick and heavy linings to get to just the right level of poof.

This gown is the epitome of romance with its delicate lace detailing through the front and the back. The photographer, Lauren Bledsoe, did such a beautiful job capturing this in these fabulous pictures!¬† Don’t be fooled by this gown! It may seem paper thin and easily damaged, but this gown can definitely hold its own and take a hit or two without looking completely ruined.

If you love this amazing delicacy of a gown give us a call or book an appointment online. We love showing off our fabulous designers like Christos! If this gown didn’t quite capture your fancy, check out our previous gown of the month. It may just peak your interest!¬† From sparkle and shine to lovely and lacy we have the gown of your dreams just waiting for you!

Multiple Wedding Gowns?

Thinking of Wearing Multiple Gowns for Your Big Day?

Here are a few tips from us!

Every wedding is different and every bride has their own dreams of what they want it to be like so it makes sense that many women would enjoy having multiple gowns for their big day. ¬†Some choose to have a second gown for their reception that is much easier to celebrate in or fall in love with multiple gowns so they find a way to wear them both. Whatever the reason, make sure it is the right decision for you and you won’t regret it.

If you are wearing multiple gowns because of tradition or culture, most of this post won’t apply.

Why are you wearing a second (or third or fourth) gown?

Do you want something more comfortable for your reception?  Are your settings for ceremony and reception dramatically different? Are you having a second celebration (reception, open house) on a different day? Do you just want two different looks (sexy mermaid and fun loving ballgown)?

A second gown could definitely work for you then! Those are all valid reasons for purchasing two gowns! Check out some of these dramatic differences in these Sareh Nouri gowns!

Image result for sareh nouri elise

Image result for sareh nouri esme

Are you torn between two gowns and think it will just be easier to get both?

If this is true then I would advise against it. Making a choice is hard and it can be quite the process for some brides, but the choice is worth it. Never settle until you have found the gown you adore!

If you spend money on a second gown will you have the resources to make them both fantastic?

Make sure you don’t stretch yourself too thin as far as funds. You want both gowns to be equally beautiful so be sure that it is in your budget to not only purchase, but also alter both gowns.¬† Our in house alteration does amazing work! Check out these before and after photos and more about our modest gowns here.

Do you want¬†a “gown” for your second dress?

If you are going super casual for your reception after a formal ceremony or having a low-key open house a week after your wedding then you might consider a sun dress or a simple wedding gown that will cost less and fit the occasion a bit better.  An option like a pantsuit might also fit a more casual occation. This one by Rebecca Schoneveld is one of my favorites!

LucasJumpSuit$-173.jpg

LucasJumpsuitBack$-175.jpg

Do you want separate gowns or a transforming gown?

Consider a two piece gown! Two piece gowns are not only trendy, but comfortable and versatile as well. Having a two piece with different looks might fit your idea for your wedding! My personal favorites are by Mikaella! These gowns have a beautiful fit and incredible comfort! Come in to try them on!

Image result for mikaella 2082

We hope that some of these tips have helped with your decision about having multiple gowns for your special day! Its a hard choice for sure! If you loved some of the gowns you have seen in this post give us a call or book an appointment online so we can help you find the designer dress of your dreams! Gowns for All Shapes and Sizes!

Size Inclusive Bridal!

Bridal Sizing is Crazy! Let us Help!

Let’s get right to it! Bridal sizing is tricky and unfortunately for everyone, more often than not a gown will not fit you perfectly when you try it on.¬† This is true for small brides, tall brides, brides with curves, and brides without. We do our best to be size inclusive so we can help you find the gown of your dreams, but sometimes we can fall a bit short.

At Bitsy, we try to keep a wide range of styles and designers for every bride, but unfortunately we cannot carry every size of each gown in our salon.  We understand the frustration of the gown not zipping, or having to look beyond the numerous clips. Its rough. As a store we are trying our best to accommodate more brides of all sizes. This includes bringing in our new designer Rebecca Schoneveld and her inclusive bridal line!

43C. London Side-Rebecca Schoneveld-2-127.jpg

Noel_Bridal_Top_Long_Sleeves_Embroidered_Front 1-Rebecca Schoneveld-2-50.jpg

Rebecca designs all of her gowns with all sizes in mind to ensure everyone looks amazing on their wedding day! All of her gowns are gorgeous in person and have an amazing quality!

Slowly but surely the wedding industry is becoming more inclusive for brides of all shapes and sizes, because everyone deserves to feel beautiful on their special day!  Unfortunately there are still some hurdles to jump through for some brides. Here are a couple tips to make your bridal experience as stress free as possible!

√ā¬©RachelGomezPhotography-RS2018-look19-2.jpg

For “Plus Sized” Brides:

Keep in mind that some shops, especially those with a higher price point, might not have your size in stock of a specific gown. At our boutique if a gown catches your eye that too small for you we will do our best to give you an idea of how it will fit on you when it comes in your size. We know its difficult to imagine sometimes, but we will try our best!

Don’t settle! Your dream dress is out there and don’t just settle for a gown you hate simply because the sample fits. You deserve your dream dress just like every other bride!

Understand how designers work. Some designers may have to alter the pattern of the gown to accommodate a larger figure. Sometimes they have to charge extra to do this. This is purely because it takes some time and they want to make sure the proportions are perfect for you so you look your best.

√ā¬©RachelGomezPhotography-RS2018-look2-17.jpg

For Tall Brides:

Keep in mind that most wedding gowns are sized on 5′ 8″ models, so if you are that height or taller know that the proportions aren’t quite right in any sample by any designer.

If you want to wear heels, let your stylist know! Sometimes a designer can add a couple complimentary inches to your gown, but other times they might charge for a extra length. We want to help you find the gown of your dreams in you budget and will take the desire for extra length into consideration.

5a.Rebecca_Schoneveld_Briana_Top_Shannon_Skirt-11.jpg

For Petite Brides:

The problems that plague tall brides also plague shorter and smaller brides as well. Again, this is because gowns are sized on 5′ 8″ models it brings problems for those who are significantly shorter than that size.¬† Hems can get expensive especially if the dress has an intricate pattern or lace.¬† Designers and seamstresses have a solution though called hollow to hem.

Hollow to hem is much like when you have a picture online and you drag the corner in to shrink it, keeping the proportions; but for a dress! It can be beneficial for both tall and short brides, but much like all problems a bride will face it will cost a bit extra.

Talk to your stylist and let them know if you are planning to wear heels or are concerned about losing patterns in the dress due to hem. They love to help you out and will do their best to show you how amazing you will look!
