Making it Modest!

Awesome Alterations!

So, you are a bride who needs her gown modest. Everywhere you go you see the same thing over and over, and think to yourself “Why does it all look the same and why can’t being modest look awesome?”

Well, I am here to tell you that we make it awesome with our fabulous alteration team! Let me show you!

This gown is called Idella by our beloved Kelly Faetanini and it is absolutely stunning, but for those who need it modest its not exactly ideal. Our fantastic alteration team did a fabulous job at building up this gown to keep is gorgeous nature with just a bit more coverage.

Who says modesty can’t be dazzling!? We brought the hand beaded detailing up through the back and into the cap sleeve and filled in the more see-though front of the gown. Alisha Hammond did an amazing job at capturing all of the beautiful and seamless detailing we used in her photography!

This is just a one example of the amazing work our alteration team has done for modest brides, and what they can do for you! If you’re loving Kelly Faetanini and her fabulous gowns we have highlighted in our recent blog posts, like the one about wedding colors, then don’t worry about modesty! Kelly has decided to design and create modest tops just for us and our beautiful brides!

Wedding Dress Colors 101

What Colors are There?

What do they look like? And which one is for me?

One of the first things we mention to brides when color is a concern is that we don’t carry white. For clarity’s sake, the white that most people think of is purest of white colors as Bright White. Bright White has a blue undertone, which is what gives it such crispness. It also causes a blue hue in photographs so be aware of that.

Knowing the difference between white, ivory and other gown colors will make your shopping experience easier.  So we’re going to break it down for you!Let’s keep it simple and break it into 4 categories: Ivory Family, Blush Family, Nude Family, Adventurous Colors.

**note: Bright White is not in any of these families, it is a family all its own and we do not carry these gowns at Bitsy Bridal.

Ivory Family

Ivory is a “catch-all” color. Anything that is white or off-white to the naked eye but isn’t actually white.  Most often, ivory will have a warm undertone of yellow or brown which is what makes it so much more appealing than Bright White.

Rachel Lauket
Elyse Alexandria
Kenzie Victory

Other names that designers will use for their ivory gowns include: natural, off white, soft white, beige. Some designers will have a dress available in ivory and beige – both are versions of ivory just with different undertones or in a darker/lighter shade. These photos feature gowns by Christos and Alyne by Rita Vinieris.

Blush Family

Technically, blush is the lightest of pinks- almost undetectable and very light. But lately blush tends to describe any dress that looks pink. There are a numerous color names for various shades that really just boil down to being called blush.

Stephanie Lorraine

Many people are afraid that blush doesn’t look “as bridal” as something from the nude or ivory family, but rest assured it photographs beautifully and is a fantastic way to make a statement while still being a bride! Check out our recent post featuring the color blush! In these photos we’re featuring (from the top down) Sareh Nouri, Tara Keely, and Saphia Blue.

Nude Family

Within the nude family we have Mocha, Champagne, Nude, Cashmere, and Cafe. Essentially these all have a brown or tan tone to them. Similar to ivory but much more saturated so there is no way they can be considered “off-white”.

Kristina Curtis
Brooke Bakken
Duke Moose

Cashmere, Mocha, and Cafe are essentially the same color just different names used by different designers. This color is a bit darker than  Champagne but still holds on to the soft “milky” quality. Nude is the darkest and is meant to look like tanned skin.  We showcased the first photo in a post here, the second gown is one our favorite Tara Keely gowns, and of course Lazaro brings up the rear with his dazzling piece that we took up to Park City.

Adventurous Colors

These are gowns that are anything but ordinary! From black, to lavender, to gold and grey, and the now trendy blue! These colors will really make a bride stand apart from the crowd without looking like she is going to the prom!

My current favorite is our beautiful Star by Kelly Faetenini! Grey and blue are hot colors for bridal right now, so if you’re a bride with a bold side come and try on our Star! The other gowns showcased in this post are also by Kelly Faetenini and Sareh Nouri  who are a part of our exclusive collection.

Hopefully this helped break down the confusing world of bridal fabric colors. Don’t forget to check back with us for more info to help your bridal experience! If you want to make an appointment to try on some gorgeous gowns of all colors call us or make an appointment online!

March: Dress of the Month

Is This Your Dress?

Showcasing a one of a kind gown from Elaya Vaughn!!

Welcome Back Ladies!!

This month we are showcasing a dress that really stands apart from the rest! We say that about every gown, I know, but this one is definitely one of a kind. This beautiful shoot was done by Kristina Curtis.

This gown has a gorgeous mocha color that makes it stand a part from your standard ivory dress. This gown also reminds me of a Greek Goddess, and this look is elevated by the addition of gold jewelry and headband. It’s exotic nature really separates it from your standard look.

The asymmetrical off the shoulder is so chic and dynamic and adds to the exotic look of the gown.  I really admire the risks that this gown takes and how it pushes boundaries on what is standard for wedding dresses.

Industrial Elegance

Hello Lovelies!

Time for another styled shoot! This particular shoot was for Utah Bride Blog and featured this lovely gown from Mikaella Bridal.   The addition of a mid-century lounge space, metal accents, and a bright backdrop made the perfect combination for this industrial wedding.

We love Mikaella gowns, and they fit so well for an industrial style wedding! This lovely gem, named Margo, is a crepe dress with an  a-line fit and amazing train. It’s simple elegance really makes this bride shine. Check out some more of our Mikaella gowns if you are drawn to the chic simplicity of this beautiful piece.

We love the simple geometric style this couple used in their wedding! The shapes really bring a modern glam and industrial feel that compliment the gown so beautifully.

Even their cake looks like it is cut from a beautiful slab of marble!  From the lighting to the decor and, more importantly, to the dress, this couple knocked it out of the park as far as the industrial style is concerned!

If you’re loving this look and want to find a gown of your own to compliment this elegant style give us a call or schedule an appointment here and we can discover the gown to elevate your industrial wedding! Special thanks to Jalene Taylor for the amazing photography!

Hope to see you soon darlings!

January: Dress of the Month

New Year New Dress!

This January we’re showcasing a gorgeous wedding dress on a gorgeous bride for our wedding dress of the month!

This dress is a dazzler for sure with an open back, full skirt, and long train from Mariana Semone.

Some brides may shy away from ball gown style wedding dress because it’s not as figure hugging as a mermaid or sheath, but a dramatic back is the perfect way to add a bit of spice while still feeling like royalty.

This wedding dress screams business in the front and party in the back! A very classical and clean look in comparison to our last featured wedding dress Pippa

If you look closely, you can see the delicate lace detailing throughout the voluminous skirt that completes this strongly silhouetted gown inspired by nature.

This gown is absolutely stunning, and if you’re an elegant bride looking for a dash of je ne sais quoi to classical silhouette, stop on by to see some of our unique collection of ball gowns and dazzling backs! Check out some more of Kenzie Victory’s work as well, because these photos are phenomenal! Don’t forget to check out our helpful tips before you come and make sure to check back for our other favorites!

Best Wishes, Darlings!

Holiday Weekend Weddings. Good Idea or Bad?

If you’re from Utah then you are well aware that we’re famous for a high number of brides with short engagement times. Three to four months is a very normal engagement around here which means brides are starting to think about their Holiday Season weddings.

With the holidays come long weekends and semester breaks. For students getting married it means a convenient time to tie the knot without taking time off from school. for large families it means hitting two birds with one stone: family holiday and family wedding.

But, its a double edged sword.

  • Yes, all of your family is already there and you don’t have to ask people to make a second trip.
  • You probably will get more attendees since its become a double-affair (maybe this is a con – you tell me, I don’t know your family)
  • Reception venues are generally cheaper since the holiday season is the wedding off-season.
  • Decorations are on sale,

  • You’re wedding is in fact piggy-backed on the holiday and is no longer the main attraction. Which also affects your anniversary.
  • You won’t get to enjoy the holidays with your family because you will a) be prepping for your wedding or b) be on your honeymoon.
  • If you have piggy-backed on a major holiday such as Christmas then you only compound the stress and  financial strain. Not only are you hosting a wedding but you have to buy presents and hostess gifts for holiday parties.

Making the decision really depends on what is the most important to you. But, my two cents?

Big wedding? Don’t do it!

Intimate wedding? Go for it!

If the event itself is very important to you and you want to spend time with your family doing wedding-related things, then I suggest having it at a dedicated time when it won’t be overshadowed by a holiday. Give your family plenty of notice. If the have to fly in then set the date a reasonable amount of time after the last date they are expected to be in town.

But, if you’re having a smaller wedding and don’t care as much about the dedicated weekend,  a holiday wedding could be a great option. That way you’ll only have people there for the actual “I Do’s” but  won’t have to do more elaborate wedding weekend.

Speaking of holiday season weddings… how awesome is this snow bunny shoot? See it on Wedding Chicks.

A Bitsy Bridal Anniversary!

Hello Gorgeous!

Bitsy Bridal is officially a year old! We have been serving local and out-of-state brides since July 2016 and the time has gone by insanely quickly.

Realizing we hit the year mark has made us start to reminisce about our beginnings. The very first of our Bitsy Bridal styled shoots was a collaboration with a venue that we are lucky enough to have just across the street: Cactus and Tropicals. Most of our styled shoots usually feature one or two gowns but as our debut into the bridal community, this shoot feature several gowns from our original collection.

The Bitsy Bridal girls and HMUA team prepping for the shoot.

Getting Ready lipstick jungle

Our photographer and AMAZING models did such a stellar job showing off our beautiful gowns.

overfluffing the train one gorgeous lady oh the plunging neckline The floral design at Cactus and Tropicals was spectacular!  Such a gorgeous, earthy background for a fun summer shoot.

These shoots may look like a piece of cake ….. hehe…..  but in reality they are the culmination of many people putting in 14-18 hour days. Artists putting their hearts and souls into their work and dress experts like us agonizing for hours over keeping a $3,000 dress made of silk mikado out of the dirt. It’s pure chaos and it feels like it will never end, but it is 100% worth it when you see the finished product.

Since this was our first shoot, all hands were on deck! Look at our rock star Operations Manager, Pam, running to take care of business!

This shoot was such a good start to our first year. It was a ton of fun and  truthfully that is what we are about. Having a good time and getting the bride her dream dress: whatever it takes!

As always ladies, much love!

Until next time,
