Andrea’s perfect custom wedding dress features a handkerchief hem and a long sleeved lace bodice. The handkerchief hem is part of the original design of the dress, but our talented Bitsy Bridal alterations team created the bodice from scratch. (Click here for a blog post all about alterations!) Creating a custom bodice is a hefty task, but our team of talented seamstresses specialize in pattern-making, which is crucial to getting the perfect fit in your custom wedding gown.

First, in a custom alterations appointment, our talented seamstress will ask you what you want to change. Then, the seamstress will sketch her vision of what you explain to her. After you agree that she has captured your vision perfectly, then she will begin work on your gown. You will have at least three alterations appointments to make sure that your custom lace bodice ballgown, for example, is perfect.

Our Bride, Elise.

Meet our real-life #BitsyBride, Elise! Elise chose a modern crepe wedding dress, style 2105, from our ever-chic designer, Mikaella, here at Bitsy Bridal in Salt Lake City. In order to fit within LDS temple standards, Elise chose to customize her wedding dress with the designer to make it more modest, and keep it just as beautiful.

How did we make this modern crepe wedding dress modest?

Mikaella‘s style is chic and simple. Their quality is nearly unmatched for the price. Because of this high quality production, our shop trusts the Mikaella design team to do customization for our #BitsyBrides. Our extremely talented and experienced in-house alterations team is skilled at these extensive alterations as well, however sometimes it is best to let the designer do it for us. Sometimes this saves the bride time and money! This was the case for Elise and her modern crepe wedding dress.

The original design of 2105 features a wide boat-neck and a plunging V-back. With the help of Mikaella, we seamlessly brought the neckline in on either side, and raised the back. This honored Elise’s religious standards beautifully.

Check out how the dress started:

Our Bride Berkeley-Custom Dress Spotlight

Many Utah brides need their perfect dress to be LDS temple modest…

And that’s why so many Utah Brides choose to be a #BitsyBride! Here at Bitsy Bridal, we help those high-fashion brides wear the high-end wedding gown of their dreams. Every bride has dreamed of getting married in a legendary Lazaro wedding dress. 😉 He doesn’t make his wedding dresses modest straight off of production, but fortunately for our #BitsyBride Berkeley, we are able to source fabric directly from him. Every piece of fabric is a perfect match. This way, we made her wedding dress (and the wedding dress of countless other brides) an LDS temple modest Lazaro wedding gown. Where do we start with custom LDS temple build ups?

Lazaro 3810 is a beautiful “Blush shimmer tulle bridal ball gown, strapless sweetheart neckline, draped bodice with natural waist, box pleated skirt with side pockets, chapel train. Berkeley opted to keep the skirt pleated, raise the neckline to a clean scoop and add a cap sleeve. She also raised the back and removed the draping in the bodice. The result looks like Lazaro himself sewed it, but in reality it was our highly talented team of in-house seamstresses and alterations specialists. Take a look at how Berkeley’s modest Lazaro wedding dress started:

And here is a closer look at the final LDS temple modest Lazaro wedding gown, altered and designed by our talented in-house alterations staff. As you can see, this modest wedding dress ended up being comfortable, fun, and mom approved!

Our Bride Sheridan

Meet our Bitsy Bride, Sheridan.

This stunning bride wore Style 3662 by Lazaro for her special day. Lazaro is well-known for doing a spectacular job at glamorous and glitzy wedding gowns. This particular gown is no exception! Sheridan worked with our seamstress to create her customized vision by making her Lazaro modest.

Style 3662 began as a sleeveless ballgown. The v-neckline gives a plunging illusion with the sweetheart lining underneath. This beautiful gown has a show stopping low back that tapers off into a V at the top of the waist. This entire gown is made up of signature Lazaro glitter fabric. A thick horse hair trim edges the hem of the gown to give a polished off look. Any bride is sure to feel like a princess in this beautiful fabric and silhouette. Sheridan opted to wear the classic ivory on her big day, but this gown is also available in champagne.

Take a look at how this gown began.

Sheridan worked with our seamstress, which is now our in-house alterations team to create her customized modest vision. First, we began by removing the bodice to create a new pattern that fit the idea of what she wanted. We then created a raised neckline and completely filled in the back. Next, we created long sleeves out of the same glitter fabric, that stopped at the wrist-bone. This was more complimentary to Sheridan’s wedding season. Finally, we hemmed the gown to her height and added bustles.

Our Bride Lauren

Meet our Bitsy Bride, Lauren.

This gorgeous bride wore “Elsa” by Lazaro. Lazaro does an incredible job with heavy beading and glitter fabrics. Elsa embodies this work perfectly. Lauren worked with our in-house alterations to create her very own modest Lazaro gown.

Elsa begins as a sleeveless ballgown in a stunning checkered net glitter fabric. The sculpted v-neckline and natural waistline together create a delicate bodice. This compliments the low scoop back very well. Finally, the spaghetti straps are detailed with crystal embellishments This look is finished off with a chapel length train.

Take a look at how Elsa began.

Creating a modest Lazaro

Lauren was wowed by the sparkle of this dress and knew it would fit perfectly into her princess vision. She began working with our in-house alterations team to make sure this gown would be temple ready. Firstly, our seamstress began by removing the bodice and recreating a brand new look. This included changing the neckline into a higher v-neck and completely filling in the back. Then, we added long sleeves to the bodice, which came to a point just below the wrist bone. Both the neckline and the sleeves were finished off with a pearl trimming. Lauren added a cummerbund in the same fabric to extenuate the smallest part of her waist. Finally, the entire look was tied together with crystal buttons that followed the length of her gown.

Lauren accessorized with a sparkle necklace and earrings. She decided to amp up her fairy-tale look by adding sparkle shoes and a matching tiara. Finally, she added a customized cathedral veil made out of the same fabric as her gown. Lauren truly looked like a princess come to life during her wedding day.

Kendra Bird Photography captured Lauren and this stunning modest Lazaro at the Salt Lake Temple and The Grand America Hotel downtown.

Our Bride Jill

Meet our Bitsy Bride, Jill.

This magnificent bride wore “Wendy” by Kenneth Winston. This designer does a brilliant job at classic sparkle, and Wendy’s detail is tribute to that. With the help of our alterations team, Jill was able to wear a beautiful beaded modest dress.

This gown began as a sleeveless sheath gown with finger-width straps and a low rounded back. Wendy’s neckline mimics a sweetheart look, but has a mesh detail that gives it more of a v-neckline. This stunning gown is beaded throughout in a diamond pattern and radiates a Gatsby feeling. The entire look is finished off with a small train of the same gorgeous beading.

Take a look at how Wendy began.

Jill worked with our alterations team to turn this beaded beauty into a modest piece of art. Our seamstress needed to do a complete rebuild of the bodice to turn it into a modest wedding gown. When a bride needs a complete rebuild, we start by drawing out a design that works with her vision. Then, we build a rough model of the new bodice, once the bride approves we can begin attaching it to the skirt and adding the necessary embellishments. For Jill this meant creating a scoop back that sat high on the back and a v-neckline. Finally, Jill went with a small cap sleeve to complete this brand new bodice. The new creation was beaded with the same design and detail that the skirt has. With the help of our alterations team, Jill was able to wear a stunning beaded modest dress.

Tamara Jennings Photography did an amazing job at capturing Jill in her custom gown during her bridals.

Our Bride Madi

Meet our Bitsy Bride, Madi.

This incredible bride looked stunning in her modest build up version of Halo from the Blush by Hayley Paige collection. Hayley Paige is known for her edgy and whimsical designs, and Halo is no exception.

Halo began with a cotton lace bodice featuring spaghetti straps and an open low back with strappy details. The tulle ballgown skirt is edged with horsehair trim and gives the gown an airy and light feeling while still providing volume.

Here is how Halo starts.

Madi worked with our seamstress during our in-house alterations to create her custom modest build up. We raised the neckline, but kept the same design as the original gown. Our seamstress then filled in the back with cotton lace to create a unified look. She added a cap sleeve to complete this modest look.

Stylist Picks: Urban Jungle

Hello Gorgeous,

Its time for one of my favorite types of posts: Stylist Picks! I’m taking a setting/venue that is common among brides this year and together with the other Bitsy Stylists will highlight our favorite gowns in every silhouette for the chosen setting!30

This round’s setting:  URBAN JUNGLE

Country-chic and feminine-floral are still going strong but the edgier, urban style is starting to come back and its coming back fast. So, for the brides getting married in lofts, industrial building, city center hotels, train stations turned reception venues, or anywhere with exposed brick, steel or concrete; these gowns are for you.

Ballgown

This ballgown from Ella Rosa is the perfect choice for an urban wedding. There is just enough sparkle paired with the clean lines and sheer nude illusion neckline. Together they make the ultimate centerpiece for a city-based wedding.

A-line

Christos does several things extremely well. One of them is a flowing, A-line silhouette. This gorgeously beaded gown, Paisley, is no exception.  The sheer back and side panels only adds to the romantic allure. Simple and comfortable with feminine and sparkling details, Paisley, is the perfect reflection of venues such as exposed lofts and industrial spaces.

Fit and Flare

Smooth crepe from head to toe, this Mikaella gown is elegant and classic.  Add the sparkling belt and suddenly its that much more romantic. Don’t let the beach-based pictures fool you, this gown is destined to be photographed under city lights and next to stunning architecture.

Column

The romantic lace and beaded applique on Idella from Kelly by Kelly Faetanini are such a perfect pair. Any ballroom or loft will be made all the more perfect with the addition of this beautiful gown.

Trumpet

Silk shantung and architectural seaming make Tamara from Tulle New York absolutely stunning. Its hard to pick the best part of this true trumpet gown. The v-back, perfectly placed seams and a crisp off the shoulder neckline are all downright perfect.

Non Traditional

Meet Kate, from Tara Keely. This gown is a column silhouette and covered in caviar beading. With the addition of the removable tulle over-skirt it becomes a flowing A-line gown with a glistening under-layer. If you are getting married in a chic ballroom or a museum this gown would be perfect.
