Our Bride, Chelsea.

Our real bride, Chelsea, found her perfect wedding dress here at Bitsy Bridal in Salt Lake City, Utah. This #BitsyBride chose a beaded backless wedding dress which features an A-line skirt and key-hole back. Then, Chelsea chose to do custom alterations with our Bitsy Bridal in-house alterations team. Her wedding gown is the Dakota gown by Hayley Paige.

The Dakota gown that Chelsea chose started with a mostly illusion tulle keyhole back. This makes the gown look more backless, and still offers the support of a keyhole back wedding dress. Chelsea opted to have our custom in-house alterations experts fill the illusion tulle. We used the same Hayley Paige beading as the rest of the bodice. This accentuates the keyhole back as a stylistic feature of the wedding gown.

Our seamstresses specialize in making ever alteration flow into the wedding gown’s original design. This keeps the wedding dress from looking patched with alterations. This process is also applied to our LDS modest temple build-ups. We never want anyone to be able to tell that something has been changed on your gown. ūüėČ

Our Bride Maiya

Meet our Bitsy Bride, Maiya.

This beautiful bride wore “Pepper” from Blush by Hayley Paige. Blush expresses the same designs that Hayley Paige is known for, but at a more cost effective price point. Pepper fits the mold of being edgy, but with classic bridal vibes.

Pepper features a bodice made from Hayley Paige’s gorgeous Marrakesh beading fabric. The sweetheart neckline and low back have a scalloped detail that gives a feminine look. The straps are a delicate spaghetti strap that run into the low V-shaped back. The ivory Marrakesh beading stops at the natural waist and then is followed by a full tulle skirt. This tulle is cut into cascading layers and edged with horsehair trim.

Maiya decided to keep Pepper in its original form. However, the sample gown she purchased was several sizes too big for her. She worked with our in-house alterations team to resize this gown and have it fit her perfectly. During this process, we needed to take in the bodice by several inches. This task required our seamstress to bring it in and rematch the beading patterns. This gave the gown a finished look, and masked the fact that this gown was once too large. Once the bodice fit her correctly, we were able to focus on hemming the gown to her height. Maiya opted to not add anymore details to her gown.

Maiya had multiple photographers capture her beautiful gown, including Shaylei Halling Photography during her Arches shoot and Madison Rogers Photography during her Oregon shoot. Take a look at how incredible both of these locations are and how stunning Maiya looks.

Our Bride Pip

Meet our Bitsy Bride, Pip.

This beauty wore “Delta” from Blush by Hayley Paige. The Blush collection features the whimsical and edgy vibe that we love from Hayley, but at a budget friendly price point. Delta is an excellent example of Hayley Paige’s artistry. This gown is amazing in its original form, or with a customized keyhole back and straps.

Delta begins as a stunning A-line gown in complete Marrakesh Beading fabric. The gown features a deep, scalloped v-neckline with a small mesh insert for coverage. To complement this neckline, the spaghetti straps come to a T in the back. Finally, the back is finished off with a Marrakesh beaded butterfly at the clasps. This art-deco inspired gown has the color option of cashmere, or traditional ivory.

Take a look at how Delta began.

Pip worked with our in-house alterations team to customize the top and bring her unique design to life. Firstly, we began by raising the neckline to about mid-bust to provide more coverage. However, this new neckline still features the beautiful scalloped edging. Next, our team created a thicker strap. Like the neckline, the straps have been edged. This scalloped edge continues across the straps and down the back. Finally, we created a brand new keyhole back for Pip. This design flowed better with the new construction and highlights Pip’s stunning features. This new back ended just above the waist and featured a small clasp in-between the shoulders to close. Pip opted to keep the beautiful A-line skirt intact.

Abby Dell Photography did a stunning job at capturing this one-of-a-kind gown. Take a look at how radiant she looks!

Our Bride Katherine

Meet our Bitsy Bride, Katherine.

This lovely bride wore “West” from the Blush by Hayley Paige Collection. This show-stopping gown features Blush by Hayley Paige’s unique Marrakesh beading throughout the entire silhouette. This mermaid cut features a sweetheart neckline and low rounded back.

First, this is how West began.

Katherine worked with our in-house alterations team to create the details on her gown and make this a unique piece of work. She opted to keep the same structure that West originally starts with. However, our seamstress removed the original spaghetti strap and added a tulle off the shoulder wrap to give this gown a special touch. This gently covered Katherine’s arms and scooped across the top of her back, giving her a soft and delicate look. Katherine purchased an overskirt out of town and wanted to incorporate this into her wedding day look. Our seamstress added hooks to the waist of the gown, so the skirt could easily be added or removed as needed.

Alicia Mink Photography captured this beautiful bride and her customized wedding dress in a stunning beach venue.

Our Bride Carly

Meet our Bitsy Bride, Carly.

This stunning bride looked amazing in her modest Pippa gown. Pippa is part of the Blush by Hayley Paige collection. Hayley Paige is known for her quirky takes on romantic classics, and the Blush line is no different. Pippa originally features a low back with criss-cross details. However, Carly worked with our alterations team to fill in the back to be modest and temple-ready.

She built up the neckline and added a few more appliqu√©s on the sleeves to round out this look. The horsehair trim on the tulle ballgown gives a full and lively look, that paired perfectly for Carly’s bridals.

Here is how this beautiful gown originally begins.

Our Bride Paola

Meet our Bitsy Bride, Paola.

Our gorgeous bride looked stunning in her Blush by Hayley Paige River gown! Blush by Hayley Paige reflects the whimsical look that we know and love from Hayley Paige, but at a price that your wedding budget will thank you for.

Created with silk dupioni, this fit to flare gown is one of the more classic looks in the Blush collection. Silk Dupioni is a type of heavy silk fabric that gives the gown a structure, similar to taffeta. Following the elongated bodice, the tiered tulle skirt is edged with a horsehair trim and keeps the structured look from top to bottom. Paola decided to wear the detachable beaded bolero on her special day. This crystal accessory gives a pop of sparkle to an otherwise elegantly clean gown.

Take a look at how beautiful Paola and this gown are at the Utah State Capitol.

Designer Highlight: Hayley Paige

Hayley Paige: The Rising Star of Bridal

Hayley’s one of a kind designs put her above the rest!

Ah Miss Hayley Paige! The girl with it all! Two amazing bridal lines, a TV show, wedding¬†athleisure wear, her own app, and more!¬† Even though her popularity has skyrocketed since her debut and partnership with JLM, it hasn’t affected the integrity of her designs. She continues to be an innovative and forward designer in the industry. We want to highlight one of our favorite gowns from her Blush¬†line. Meet¬†Halo.

Hayley‘s designs are always intricate and innovative.¬† With gowns like Halo, she uses various layers of tulle and horsehair trim to give volume and dimension. She also puts the layers on the outside of her skirts, unlike most ballgowns that carry the volume underneath a patterned layer of fabric. Her ballgowns have a beautiful type of asymmetry that makes them stand apart from your standard ballgowns.

Hayley has also embraced the trend of dark under light.  By putting a darker nude or champagne color underneath a light ivory lace, it catches the eye and makes the lace pop! She does this with both lace and with her one-of-a-kind Marrakesh beading  in her Delta and West gowns.

Kudos to Mary Jessica who took these stunning photos!

Hayley is one of a kind and her gowns are guaranteed to make you look and feel fabulous and trendy! We hope you have loved our Halo gown. If this isn’t isn’t your jam, check out our other designer highlight for some more inspiration! Call or book online to try on some of Hayley’s new 2018 collection.

Why are Designer Wedding Dresses so Expensive?

All about what makes a gown so pricey

A question I get from many brides and their mothers is, “Why is this dress so expensive?” Some brides are shocked when they find out that a gown with little-to-no detailing costs more than the gown with all of the tulle and beading in the world. Here is a breakdown of the 4 things that go into making an expensive designer gown. Hopefully, this can help clear up some confusion about gown prices.

DETAILING

As mentioned before, sometimes the detailing isn’t the most costly aspect of a gown – but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t contribute to the overall price.

There are many different types of lace, beading, appliqués, and shimmer. All of them can vary in complexity and quality. If a dress has designer-unique detailing, like this caviar beaded gown from Tara Keely, it is going to be more expensive.

The same goes for lace and other detailing.

Style 2810 Tara Keely by Lazaro bridal gown - Ivory beaded floral and chevron modified A-line bridal gown, illusion V neckline, open back with dual crystal straps and chapel train.

FABRIC

Fabric is one of the bigger factors that plays into the price of a gown. Polyester tends to be a cheaper fabric than silk crepe or silk chiffon.

So why isn’t everything made in polyester, or other cheaper fabrics? The simplest answer is that different fabrics create very different looks, and frame your shape in different ways.

For example, silk crepe by Mikaella is a natural fiber that hugs the body, and drapes in a way that no other fabric does. The fabric is one of the first signs of high quality. The quality of the fabric definitely determines the price.

DESIGN

Something that not everyone considers when looking at a gown is the designing that goes into it. To create the unique shape and fit of a gown, a lot of time and thought must be put into the design.

More expensive gowns will have a more calculated pattern that deliberately showcases certain aspects of the figure. This is especially apparent in minimalist styles, like those by Amsale.

Remember, “less is more,” but less is more difficult than it looks. Every line and seam in the dress is purposefully placed to create the effortless-looking shape that you love. The time and talent of our designers is very valuable, and truly transforms a gown, from a blob of fabric to a work of art.

DESIGNER

Last, and certainly not least, is the designer. Every designer has their own invaluable style and creativity. However, much like other areas of fashion, the name behind the creativity is important too.

Because designers like Lazaro and Hayley Paige have made such a big splash in the bridal world with their designs and innovation, they can charge more for their gowns.

There is nothing more amazing than hearing that someone was able to purchase a gown from THE designer. The status of the designer is another factor that can lead to a gown being more expensive.

Style 3814 Lazaro bridal gown - Ivory silver checkered net bridal gown, sculpted V-neckline with crystal beaded strap, natural waist, A-line skirt with side pockets, chapel train.

Style 1802 Kona Blush by Hayley Paige bridal gown -√ā¬†Ivory draped chiffon A-line bridal gown, sweetheart neckline with beaded strap accent, draped cut out back detail, flowing chiffon skirt with slit.

Hopefully this can shed a bit of light on how gowns get so expensive. When it comes down to it, the quality and craftsmanship determines the price.

It’s always a good idea to keep this in mind when planning your wedding, and thinking about how you want to feel and look in your gown without breaking your bank.

Some of the Best Things Come in Twos!

A two piece gown can really make a statement and add to your comfort!

Two piece gowns are in! They are chic and comfortable and will definitely make you stand apart from the crowd! Today I want to highlight a couple of gowns from a couple of our favorite designers, Hayley Paige and Mikaella and talk about the look of two piece gowns!

This gown is by the lovely Hayley Paige and her, exclusive to Bitsy, Blush collection! This two piece gown gives you the best of both worlds.  A little bit of poof and some boho lace in the bodice.  With a gown like this you can still feel comfortable while making a bold entrance and a stylish fashion statement.

The gorgeous lace gives you a sense of youth while the bottom skirt hugs your figure and tells the world that you are elegance! The crepe bottom is so breathable and figure flattering that it really take the two piece look to the next level. This gown is also technically a three piece gown! It comes with the lace bodice with a crepe camisole underneath so you can wear lace for the ceremony and then have an adorable all crepe look for the reception!

Wedding Dress Colors 101

What Colors are There?

What do they look like? And which one is for me?

One of the first things we mention to brides when color is a concern is that we don’t carry white.¬†For clarity’s sake, the white that most people think of is purest of white colors as Bright White.¬†Bright White has a blue undertone, which is what gives it such crispness. It also causes a blue hue in photographs so be aware of that.¬† A few designers carry Bright White gowns, like Enchanting.¬†¬†All of our¬†in store¬† gowns are ivory or other colors.

Knowing the difference between white, ivory and other gown colors will make your shopping experience easier.¬† So we’re going to break it down for you!Let’s keep it simple and break it into 4 categories: Ivory Family, Blush Family, Nude Family, Adventurous Colors.

Ivory Family

Ivory is a “catch-all” color. Anything that is white or off-white to the naked eye but isn’t actually white. ¬†Most often, ivory will have a warm undertone of yellow or brown which is what makes it so much more appealing than Bright White.

Rachel Lauket

Elyse Alexandria

Kenzie Victory

Other names that designers will use for their ivory gowns include: natural (Mikaella), off white, soft white, beige. Some designers will have a dress available in ivory and beige – both are versions of ivory just with different undertones or in a darker/lighter shade. These photos feature gowns by Christos and Alyne by Rita Vinieris.

Blush Family

Technically, blush is the lightest of pinks- almost undetectable and very light. But lately blush tends to describe any dress that looks pink. There are a numerous color names for various shades that really just boil down to being called blush.

Stephanie Lorraine

E+E Photography

Many people are afraid that blush doesn’t look “as bridal” as something from the nude or ivory family, but rest assured it photographs beautifully and is a fantastic way to make a statement while still being a bride! Check out our recent post featuring the color blush! In these photos we’re featuring (from the top down) Sareh Nouri, Tara Keely, and Saphia Blue.

Nude Family

Within the nude family we have Mocha, Champagne, Nude, Cashmere, and Cafe. Essentially these all have a brown or tan tone to them. Similar to ivory but much more saturated so there is no way they can be considered “off-white”.

Kristina Curtis

Brooke Bakken

Duke Moose

Cashmere, Mocha, and Cafe are essentially the same color just different names used by different designers. This color is a bit darker than ¬†Champagne but still holds on to the soft “milky” quality. Nude is the darkest and is meant to look like tanned skin.¬† We showcased the first photo in a post here¬†, by Elaya Vaughn, the second gown is one our favorite Tara Keely gowns, and of course Lazaro brings up the rear with his dazzling piece that we took up to Park City.

Adventurous Colors

These are gowns that are anything but ordinary! From black, to lavender, to gold and grey, and the now trendy blue! These colors will really make a bride stand apart from the crowd without looking like she is going to the prom!

My current favorite is our beautiful Star by Kelly Faetenini! Grey and blue are hot colors for bridal right now, so if you’re a bride with a bold side come and try on our Star! The other gowns showcased in this post are also by Kelly Faetenini and Sareh Nouri¬† who are a part of our exclusive collection.

Hopefully this helped break down the confusing world of bridal fabric colors. Don’t forget to check back with us for more info to help your bridal experience! If you want to make an appointment to try on some gorgeous gowns of all colors call us or make an appointment online!

Dakota from Blush by Hayley Paige

Hello Lovelies!

Its time for another installment in our Hayley Paige saga. We’ve taken a detailed look at 3 Blush by Hayley Paige gowns and we are still waiting for our last one, Kingston, to come in. Today, we have Dakota, our second to last gown and the second gown featuring Marrakesh Beading.

The other gown in our inventory to feature Marrakesh is West. ¬†As you can see there are many obvious differences such as silhouette, straps and amount of Marrakesh. But one that is not so obvious is the difference in lining colors. ¬†West’s lining is Cashmere and Dakota’s is Nude.

WEST

DAKOTA

Dakota is from the most recent season of Blush by Hayley Paige. It has the very sought after demure skirt paired with a very princess-y bodice.

For Utah brides, this dress is an excellent option if you need a modest gown. We can very easily order the Marrakesh beading and make the bodice modest without losing the integrity of the design and without having it look like piecework.

The Skinny

Silhouette: Ball Gown

Neckline: V-Neck

Waistline: Natural – it actually falls just below the natural waist but not low enough to be a “corset” waist.

Straps: Cap Sleeves

Back: Keyhole

Fabric: Marrakesh beaded bodice and tulle skirt

Sparkle Factor: 4/5

The Marrakesh Beading is very obvious and the only way for it to be more sparkly is if it covered the whole gown.

Boho Factor: 1/5

This gown reaches clearly to the “princess” side of the spectrum. There is a little bit of a Boho vibe from the lace and relaxed silhouette of the ballgown but that’s about it.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this gown. Now that it’s here… it is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

I think it is such a fresh and flawless design from Miss Hayley Paige. What are your thoughts?

Until next time,

Becca

Dress of the Month: Pippa

Continuing our Hayley Paige reveal. Next up is Pippa!

Pippa is so amazing that we have decided to have it be the dress of the month! Read on to see why!

As you know, Hayley Paige is famous for her fabulous, flirty ball gowns and Pippa definitely fits that bill.  Layers and layers of tulle and a sheer lace bodice are what create her unique charm.

The Skinny:

Silhouette: Ballgown with tiered skirt

Waistline: Natural

Neckline:  Illusion

Back: Open with strap detail

Color: Ivory with nude lining on bodice (also available in solid ivory)

Sparkle Factor:  0/5

Boho Factor: 4/5 – Its unusual for a ballgown to have such a bohemian vibe but Pippa pulls it off by adding a sheer bodice with a combination of organic laces on top of a voluminous skirt.

The little details are where Pippa truly shines!

~The back has crisscrossing straps that are dainty and fabulous.

~The lace on the sleeves is perfectly placed to flatter and elongate the arm while still allowing for free range of motion.

~The skirt is accented with horsehair trim to add body and visual interest to the soft tulle.

Pippa is a gown that fits with the trendy vibe of the times but also has a classic style that will never go out of fashion.

We are getting down to our last few Hayley Paige gowns! Check back to see them debut.

Until next time!

Becca

Halo!

Before I dive in can we all just take a second to admit that Halo is the best name for a gown EVER. Its ridiculously adorable.  Okay, thanks.

Halo is the second arrival from Blush by Hayley Paige.

I¬†will admit, I was against ordering this gown at first. I wanted a different one. But now that it is here, I am happily eating crow because it is so painfully perfect. My absolute favorite part is the back. I’m a sucker for a pretty back on a gown. If you think it’s gorgeous in the pictures, you have to see it in person.

The Skinny

Silhouette:  Ball Gown

Design:  Lace bodice, tiered tulle skirt with horse hair trim

The guipure lace  on the bodice is light but a bit chunky which is a nice contrast to the soft tulle skirt.

The skirt is made of several layers of tulle which gives it body without adding weight or bulk making the gown very ethereal and easy to manage.

Neckline: Scalloped v-neck

A beautiful twist on a standard v-neck a scalloped neckline is much more whimsical.

Straps: Spaghetti

Back: Low open back with strap detail

Color:  Ivory with nude underlay (also available in solid ivory)

Shine Level: 0

The draw for Halo is the cut and finish of the fabric, not added beading or

shine.

Boho Level:  3

Hayley Paige is known for her exquisite ball gowns. Halo is no exception.  It will fit perfectly in many settings both indoor and outdoor. It is very much a warm weather gown but if you love the design, you could customize it by adding sleeves and it would work just as well.

We are so excited to have these Blush by Hayley Paige gowns trickling in! They are simply gorgeous and make beautiful additions to our carefully picked selection of gowns.

Until next time,

Becca
